For my 35th birthday, there was no question about where we’d go—Bangkok. The city’s energy, vibrant culture, and, most importantly, its food keep me coming back. I love Thai food, and in Bangkok, everything tastes incredible. With kids along this time, our trip was more laid-back, focused on savoring moments rather than following a packed itinerary.
We chose to stay at The Grand Centre Point Ratchadamri, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. This place was not only great value for money but also wonderfully equipped for families. With its gym, pool, and, most importantly, an indoor and outdoor play area for the kids, it felt like a mini-oasis. The central location put us close to everything, making our explorations easy and convenient.
Indulging in Bangkok’s Culinary Scene, Bite by Bite
Instead of rushing from one tourist spot to another, we spent our days between leisurely mall visits, casual strolls, and dining at some of Bangkok’s best-reviewed restaurants. Here are the standout spots we loved:
Sol and Luna was a true gem, nestled on the 15th floor of the GLOW Sukhumvit 71 Hotel. This two-level venue features Sol as the main restaurant and Luna as the rooftop bar—an ideal spot to take in the Bangkok skyline. With doors opening at 5 pm, we timed our visit perfectly for a sunset dinner. The ambiance was refined and elegant, with a breathtaking city view that set the mood beautifully.
For dinner, I ordered the Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti. It may have looked simple, but the flavors were anything but! The crab’s flavor was beautifully pronounced, perfectly complemented by the pasta’s delicate balance—both delicate and rich. My husband went for the Hanger Steak, and he was equally impressed. I also liked that they offered a kid’s meal with delicious burgers that kept the kids happy and satisfied. We finished with their Banana Caramel dessert with Chocolate and Ice Cream—a treat so good it made me want to order another one!
Arun Restaurant: Located conveniently in the lobby of our hotel, Arun Restaurant was a fantastic choice for experiencing traditional Thai flavors. We were eager to try some classic dishes, and they truly delivered. The highlight, however, was their impressive dessert selection, which managed to wow us even after we thought we were full. We ordered the Taro Balls with Coconut Ice Cream and Thai Milk Tea served in a coconut shell. Well, you can never go wrong with coconut—it was the perfect ending!
Akanee: If I had to pick a favorite, Akanee would be it. Located in Earth Ekamai, an area known for its stylish cafés and restaurants, Akanee impresses from the start. The chic Japandi interior, with high ceilings and an airy two-level layout, sets a sophisticated yet cozy atmosphere.
The food was equally impressive. Although they didn’t have a dedicated kid’s meal, the staff went above and beyond, preparing a special kid-friendly dish just for our children. For ourselves, we had the Stir-Fried Glass Noodles with Three Aromatic Vegetables and the Australian Lamb Rack.
But the real star of the meal was the Grilled Pork Ribs with Tamarind Sauce. The pork was perfectly tender, seasoned just right, with the tamarind sauce adding a memorable, tangy kick. It’s a dish I’d highly recommend, though if you’re ordering both the ribs and lamb rack, be ready for a feast!
Of course, we couldn’t resist trying Thai desserts and teas on other days as well. And yes, after a few days of indulging, I definitely gained a few inches—but every bite was absolutely worth it!
This trip was all about balancing family time with our love for food, and Bangkok delivered. Staying chill, hitting just a few chosen spots, and focusing on memorable meals made this one of my favorite trips yet.
