In Germany, we embarked on a winter adventure to explore two iconic castles, Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle. Our day was filled with snowy wonder, unexpected fashion choices, and intriguing tales about the "mad king" Ludwig II. Join me on our frosty Bavarian escapade.
Our Bavarian journey began with a GetYourGuide day tour from Munich, which included visits to Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle. Priced at S$350 for four people, this package provided a hassle-free experience. Along the way, we enjoyed an enchanting stop in Oberammergau for photos and shopping, followed by a delightful lunch in Schwangau.
As we arrived in Bavaria, we were greeted by a winter wonderland. The landscape was blanketed in a thick layer of snow, turning the entire region into a picturesque fairy tale scene. The chill in the air only added to the enchantment of our day.
Our journey began at Linderhof Palace, a splendid showcase of German Rococo architecture set in Bavaria's snowy landscape. Originally a hunting lodge, the palace exuded opulence, boasting a stunning facade and snow-covered gardens. However, photography and filming inside were strictly prohibited. The ornate rooms, with their gold leafwork, chandeliers, and lavish furnishings, transported us to a bygone era. The Hall of Mirrors, a masterpiece of design, revealed King Ludwig II's deep affection for the palace.
After our visit to Linderhof Palace, we journeyed to Oberammergau for a scenic photo stop and some shopping, followed by a delightful lunch in Schwangau, before making our way to the majestic Neuschwanstein Castle.
Our adventure's grand finale was the Neuschwanstein Castle. Little did we know, on this eventful day, that Blessing's choice of high-heeled boots would lead to an unexpected hiking adventure up to the castle. As we ascended the snowy path, our laughter echoed in the crisp air, a testament to our willingness to embrace the fashion-induced suffering with lightheartedness.
Finally reaching Neuschwanstein Castle, we were in awe of its fairytale-like appearance. Perched high on a hill overlooking the snow-covered landscape, the castle was a sight to behold. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside the castle, but the opulence and grandeur of the interiors left a lasting impression. We marveled at the king's massive room, which was adorned with lavish decorations and intricate details. Our guide shared tales of King Ludwig II, dubbed the "mad king" and a Virgo. Though astrology can't explain his eccentricities, it sparked an interesting conversation. Virgos' attention to detail and perfectionism may have fueled his love for grand architectural projects.
Our winter visit to Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle proved to be a memorable experience, marked by unexpected twists and turns. From the snowy Bavarian landscape to our high-heeled hiking adventure, each moment left a lasting impression.
